Chapathi

Ingredients
Wheat Flour (atta)- 2 cups ( as required)
Salt ( optional - to taste)
Curd or milk ( optional)
Oil ( as required)
Luke warm water

Method:
  • Add the flour to a bowl easy to kneed and make a dough.
  • Adding salt and curd are optional. Salt is not required coz the curry with which you eat the chapathi will be just right. Adding curd or milk will make the chapathi softer. ( but my mom makes soft chapathi's w/o adding curd or milk ...)
  • Add the Luke warm water to the flour and mix it. Mix it and kneed it well to make a fine dough. Just like how you make bread and pizza's.

  • Add a lil oil to the dough and kneed one last time, place it in an air tight container for atleast half an hr to 1 hr
  • After half an hr, make small balls out of the dough.

  • Take one ball, dust it in the remaining flour a little and roll it till it flattens out to the maximum.

  • Meanwhile, keep pan/ skillet ready on the flame and let it get heated up
  • Add the chapathi to the pan. Let it remain for 1 to 2 mins. You will see small bubbles emerging on top of the chappathi. Then turn it with a spatula.

  • Once you see the bubbles on this side, turn it again.
  • Allow it to raise on both sides.
  • If required, you can add oil to the chappathi at this point. ( dont add oil at the beginning. Only after it gets cooked fully you need to add oil ).

  • Place in hotpack or serve hot.

  • Try the same with all the other small balls you ve made.

Good to eat with any curry.

Tip :

  1. You might not get it round the first time. But practise makes you perfect and you will get it eventually.
  2. Add curd or milk to get softer chapathi's
  3. Also adding a slice of bread (w/o the outer crust) to the dough would make the chapathi soft ...try it :)
  4. Keeping the dough for atleast 1/2 hr to 1 hr before preparing the chapathi's also makes the dough soft.
  5. Dont keep the chapathi to cook for a long time. This will harden the chapathi. Once cooked immediately turn side or remove from pan.

Enjoy your chapathi and do let me know how it was...

Also, your suggestions are most welcome... :)

Have a Great day !!!
